FAQ

Who can apply to the course?
Undergraduate/ Msc/ PhD students, post-docs and researchers at universities or academic/ industrial institutes.
Is there any registration fee to participate in the course?
OIST will cover your round trip air-ticket (from/ to the airport nearest to your institute) and meals in Okinawa during the workshop. All the participants are expected to arrive in Okinawa on Wednesday May 15th and depart on Wednesday May 29th. Unfortunately, because of travel regulations we cannot accomodate requests to stay longer, even at your own expense.
When could I expect to know my participation in the course?
Application Deadline: February 28th, 2013
Notification of participation from OIBC: March 5th, 2013
Contact from OIST travel agent for flight arrangement: After notification of acceptance
Deadline for your photograph and short bio for our web site: May 10th, 2013
Does everyone need to submit a poster abstract?
We will have two poster sessions during the workshop. Every participant is expected to submit a poster abstract and present a poster. Time permitting (very unlikely), some may be selected for 15-minute talks. The goal of the posters is to tell other course participants about your work, and to get feedback. The could be based on research you have already done, which is the most common case, or even on ideas for which you would like to get feedback.
What do I need to bring?
OIST will provide meals and bed linen. Aside from clothes and toiletries, you should bring sunscreen and swimming gear, including sturdy-soled shoes to ward off numerous spiny and stinging sea creatures that live in the sea around Okinawa.
What are the housing arrangements like?
Every student and tutor will have a shared room with one roommate and with an ensuite bathroom.
