Dr. Scott Brown, Scientist-Entrepreneur, will speak about his experiences in commercializing university discoveries and partnering with Asian companies on Jan. 18^th 2016, C209, 1:00-3:00 pm.

Dr. Brown, with over 30 years of global industry experience, is CEO of Nexeon Ltd.  Nexeon is a spin-out of Imperial College London that originally developed a Si anode technology for Li-ion batteries. It was spun-out as a result of proof-of-concept development based on a publication. Since its founding in 2005, Nexeon has built up a patent portfolio of over 40 patent families, raised £40 million (JPY 7,340 million) in C series funding, and opened a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with a 20 tonne/year production capacity.

Prior to Nexeon, Dr. Brown was Executive Vice President Commercial, IP and Research of Cambridge Display Technology, a spin-out of Cambridge University, where he played a pivotal role in its IPO on the NASDAQ and subsequent acquisition by Sumitomo Chemical for US$285 million.
