OIST Badminton Club
Welcome guests! The OIST Badminton club will provide the opportunity for OIST students, faculty, staff, and interns to play the sport following the standardized rules as stipulated by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). It is also the purpose of the club to promote camaderie and at the same time promote health and wellbeing and sportsmanship among its members while playing this sport.
The club is organized under a president (Nino A. Espinas), vice-president (Elaine Wong), and advisers (Yoshiko Harukawa & Yoko Yazaki-Sugiyama). Currently, there are about six to ten people playing regularly all year-round. The club plays through the academic year and welcomes interested players at all levels.
The club holds practices and friendly matches regularly every Monday, from 19:00-21:30 at Tancha Kouminkan Hall, Tancha, Onna-son. It also plays with the local community of Ishikawa, Okinawa, and in the near future Onna badminton groups. The club is equipped with a number of racquets free for use aside from the net and the court space in Tancha Kouminkan Hall. The club collects a minimum amount of fee (200-300 yen) from each player after each game session to cover the court rental and the purchase of birds.
