Description

FUTURE OF CLIMATE WEBINAR SERIES:
Climate Change – Everything Goes Somewhere

FEATURING:
Mr. Andrew Manale, Policy Analyst & Writer
Mr. Bengt “Skip” Hyberg, President, H&H Conservation

U.S.: OCTOBER 19 @ 8:00 PM EDT
JAPAN:  OCTOBER 20 @ 9:00 AM JST

The presenters talk about their new book, A Guide to Understanding Fundamental Principles of Environmental Management: It Ain’t Magic: Everything Goes Somewhere, (link here) and how it relates to climate change and other “sticky” natural resource management problems.   Notice that they interchange the terms “natural resource” and “environmental” management. They explain how the two relate to climate change and to other policy problems, such as water quality and habitat protection.  Most importantly, they present a framework for evaluating local actions that all of us can take and policy options that can be implemented at various political dimensions.  They explain how managing medium-term storage of the elements that constitute greenhouse gases (carbon and nitrogen as well as phosphorus), such as in soils, serves to mitigate threats to health and welfare.    Readers will acquire the capacity to work their way through these highly complex problems to see where missteps and unanticipated adverse results can occur.  The book should interest not only just students but also anyone wishing to better understand better the fundamental issues regarding climate change and resource management.
