Karatea Time

Do not miss teatime this Thursday, June 18. One of the world's highest-ranked karate and kobudo masters will give a demonstration of Okinawan martial arts with weapons. Shimabukuro Sensei, who runs a dojo in Katsuren, will give a short demonstration on how to use the bo (stick), sai (handheld trident) and kama (sickle). He will also give a short explanation of the history behind these techniques in Japanese, which will be translated into English. Teatime starts at 4 p.m. and the demonstration will start about 4:30 p.m. If you are hooked, join Shimabukuro Sensei for a free, introductory lesson in how to use the bo at 5 p.m. in the Village Center meeting room.
