Abstract:
Broadcast and print media are bombarded by information from organisations and individuals seeking positive coverage for their product, service or initiative. So with limited airtime or space on the page, how do the media select which stories to cover? Sarah Caplin explains what TV producers and journalists are looking for; namely strong and simple narratives with a new or exclusive twist plus compelling and, preferably, visually-compelling characters to articulate the story. The media guard their editorial independence fiercely, so it is important for those seeking media exposure to work out the best ways to ‘sell’ their story and to prepare and protect the individuals promoting it.
