Join us for an engaging course where you can learn about space in a fun and interactive way, featuring a lecture by Dr. Yuko Kakazu from the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and TMT International Observatory. April 17th to 23rd is designated "Science and Technology Week" designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and April 22nd is Earth Day. Why not join us for this family science event where you can delve into the exploration of space and discover new and fascinating facts about the cosmos?

Yuko Kakazu, Ph.D.

Education, Outreach, and Broader Impacts Manager & Scientist

National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and TMT International Observatory

Born and raised in Naha, Okinawa, Dr. Kakazu is the Education, Outreach, and Broader Impacts Manager and Scientist at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and TMT International Observatory. With a Ph.D. from the University of Hawaiʻi's Institute for Astronomy, she is the first Okinawan astronomer. She has held researcher positions at several institutions including the California Institute of Technology, University of Chicago, and Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics. Previously, she led education and outreach initiatives at the Subaru Telescope in Hawaiʻi. Dr. Kakazu is actively engaged in various leadership capacities, including Director of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hawaiʻi, member of the Board of Councilors at OIST, Trustee and Education Ambassador of the OIST Foundation, and U.S.-Japan Council Council Leader.
