Tsunami Evacuation Drill
津波避難訓練
Last month the SAP held our very first tsunami emergency evacuation drill. This was in collaboration with the OIST Fire and Disaster Prevention Team and the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force Base (Onna). After an earthquake drill at the Seaside House, the children, staff, and Seaside House staff members evacuated to the base across the road.
Once the children arrived at he base the JASDF staff members spoke to the children about their daily jobs, emergency vehicles, and safety procedures. The children were then able to get inside and explore the emergency vehicles! It was an amazing experience for the everyone, and we look forward to further strengthening OIST bonds with the local community.
先月、SAPは初めての津波避難訓練を実施しました。これは、OISTの消防防災チームと航空自衛隊恩納分屯基地の協力のもとで行われました。シーサイドハウスでの地震訓練の後、子どもたち、スタッフ、シーサイドハウス職員は、道路を挟んだ向かい側にある基地へ避難しました。
基地に到着したら、航空自衛隊の隊員の方が、普段のお仕事内容や緊急車両、安全対策についてのお話をしてくださいました。そして、子どもたちは実際に緊急車両に乗り込み、車内を見学することができました。子どもたちにとっても、スタッフにとっても素晴らしい経験となり、OISTと地域社会との絆がさらに深まることを期待しています。

まきこ先生ありがとうございました！
We are sad to inform you that December will be Makiko-Sensei's last month with The School Aged Program. Over the past year, Makiko-Sensei has been an integral part of the program. Her energy, positive attitude, and support will be greatly missed by the staff and children.
It is not all sad news though, because Makiko and her husband will be welcoming a new baby into their lives in January! Makiko-Sensei has worked hard throughout her pregnancy here at the SAP, and we are truly grateful for all the support she gave us. Again we want to say a big THANK YOU! to Makiko-Sensei from all the staff and children here at the OIST School Aged Program.
12月をもちまして、まきこ先生は小中学校プログラムを退職することとなりました。この1年間、まきこ先生はプログラムにとって欠かせない存在でした。彼女のエネルギー、前向きな姿勢、そしてサポートがなくなるのは、スタッフにとっても子どもたちにとっても、とても寂しいものです。
しかし悲しいニュースばかりではありません。というのも、まきこ先生とご主人は、1月に赤ちゃんを迎える予定だからです。まきこ先生は妊娠中もずっとSAPで頑張ってくださり、私たちを支えてくださったことに心から感謝しています。改めて、OIST小中学校プログラムのスタッフ、子どもたち全員から、まきこ先生に大きな「ありがとう！」を伝えたいと思います。
Art Club
アートクラブ
Over the last couple months the art club engaged is a number of fun and exciting art activities. The Minecraft theme was VERY popular, as some of you may know from the swords and helmets that some of the children might have brought home. The children also learned how to make figures out of tinfoil, and had fun creating chalk art during some of the rainy days we had last month. The childrens artwork really brightens up the program.
A big thank you to Rei-Sensei for all of the great ideas and support you have been giving the children during your art club. You've been a big inspiration to all the kids participating. Every Monday the kids look forward to new challenges and fun in the SAP Art Club :)
ここ数ヶ月、アートクラブは楽しくてエキサイティングなアート活動を数多く行ってきました。マインクラフトのテーマはとても人気があり、剣や被り物を持ち帰ったお子さんもいらっしゃると思います。また、アルミホイルでフィギュアの作り方を学んだり、先月の雨の日にはチョークアートをして楽しみました。子どもたちの作品は、このプログラムをとても華やかにしてくれました。
れい先生、アートクラブで子どもたちに素晴らしいアイデアとサポートをしてくださって、本当にありがとうございました。先生は、参加する子どもたちに大きなインスピレーションを与えてくれています。毎週月曜日、子どもたちはSAPアートクラブでの新しいチャレンジを楽しみにしています。:)
LEGO STEM Programming Class
レゴSTEMプログラミングクラス
Last month kicked off our new addition to the School Aged Program, a Lego STEM Programming Class! We are thrilled to be able to provide your children with the opportunity to learn aspects of STEM through hands-on fun with LEGO's. The class instructor Mr. Randall Murchison (Mr. Murch) has done an amazing job guiding the children through the builds. We will evaluate the November trial month of lessons, and if the children and staff feel the classes went well and want to continue, then we will start the classes back up in January.
Please note if we decide to continue the classes, that the classes will be held on Thursdays only from January.
先月、小中学校プログラムに新しく加わった「レゴSTEMプログラミングクラス」がスタートしました。レゴを使った体験型の遊びを通して、STEMの側面を学ぶ機会を提供できることを嬉しく思います。このクラスの講師であるランダル・マーチソン氏（ミスターマーチ）は、子どもたちの組み立て作業を上手に指導してくれています。SAPは11月のお試しレッスンを評価し、子どもたちやスタッフが「うまくいった」「続けたい」と思えば、1月からクラスを再開する予定です。
なお、クラスを継続することになった場合は、1月から木曜日のみの開催となります。

We would just like to remind you that if your child will be absent from the SAP/bus for any reason, please be sure to share that information either in person with a staff member, or online by emailing schoolageprogram@oist.jp

December and January Holiday Program Dates
12月-1月のホリデープログラム日程
Be sure to regularly check the SAP webpage for updated information on Holiday Program dates. Please remember that in order to receive services, you must sign up two business days in advance to the required services.
If you would like to order lunch and snacks, you must do so by the 20th of the month prior to the required service. Once a lunch order is made, refunds are not available. This includes, but is not limited to, if you decide to cancel a HP enrollment date, if your child will be absent, or if you or your child are sick and cannot attend as scheduled. Holiday Program space is available on a first-come first served-basis.

昼食とおやつを注文する場合は、必要なサービスの前月20日までに注文してください。昼食の注文をした後の返金はできません。これには、ホリデープログラム参加日のキャンセル、お子様の欠席、保護者またはお子様の体調不良で予定通り参加できない場合も含みますが、これに限定されるものではありません。ホリデープログラムのスペースは、先着順でご利用いただけます。
