５月のSAPルーム May in the SAP Room

5月中、恩納小学校・幼稚園は通常のスケジュールでした。 幼稚園の子どもたちは昼食後にSAPに到着します。 彼らはSAPの先生とお話をする時間があります。 子どもたちは一緒に仲良く遊び、輪ゴムのブレスレットやネックレス、ビーズ、お絵描き、折り紙キャラクター作りなど、アートやクラフト活動に参加しています。

小学生は午後に到着し、おやつを食べます。 彼らは静かな時間を過ごし、その間、先生は宿題をするように励まし、手伝います。 その後、アート(月曜日)、テニス(火曜日)、ハンドボール(水曜日)、サイエンス(金曜日)などのさまざまなクラブ活動に参加するよう勧められます。子どもたちは遊び場で自由に遊んだりもします。

Onna elementary and kindergarten had a normal schedule during the month of May. The kindergarteners arrive at SAP after lunch. They often have story time with the SAP teachers. They bond with each other and get involved in arts and crafts activities such as making rubber band jewelry and animals, beads, drawing and creating origami characters.

Elementary school children arrive in the afternoon and eat a snack. They spend quiet time during which teachers encourage and support them to do their homework. Afterwards they are encouraged to participate in various club activities such as Art (Mondays), Tennis (Tuesdays), Handball (Wednesdays) and Science (Fridays). The children also enjoy free play on the playground.  

 

もうすぐ夏です！Summer is coming!

だんだん外は暑くなってきています。 保護者の方は、お子さんが外遊びをするために水筒、帽子、日焼け止め(任意)を持たせてください。詳細は、太陽安全ポリシーをご確認ください(23ページ)。

It is getting hot out there. Parents please make sure your child has a water bottle, hat and sunscreen (optional) for outdoor play. Check out our sun-safety policy for more information (page 13).

6月、7月、8月のホリデープログラムの登録
Holiday Program enrollment for June, July, August

6月と7月と8月のホリデープログラムのウェブフォームは、お子さんの学校の休暇中にホリデープログラムサービスに参加するご家族が利用できます。ホリデープログラムの日にランチとおやつを注文する場合は、前月の20日までに登録してください。

The June, July, and August holiday program webform is available for families who wish to participate in holiday program services during their children's summer holidays. Remember to sign up by 5:00 PM on the 20th of the preceding month if you want to order lunch and snack on holiday program days.
 

シノ・ミランダ先生、SAPへようこそ！SAP welcomes new teacher Shino Miranda!　

2014年に日本に戻ってきて以来、シノ先生は沖縄の公立中学校で働いてきました。 昨年、彼女はその仕事を離れ、別の環境で働いてきましたが、また子どもたちと一緒に働きたいと思いました。 シノ先生はSAPの子どもたちと交流し、つながりを築くのを楽しんでいます。

Since returning to Japan in 2014, Shino-sensei has worked at public junior high schools here in Okinawa. Last year she left her position to work in different environments, but she wanted to work with children again. She loves interacting and making connections with the SAP children.

5月のクラブと活動　May Clubs and Activities　

輪ゴムブレスレット：レインボーバンドコレクションを使って、子どもたち様々なデザインのブレスレットやネックレスを作る方法を学びました。

Rubber band bracelets: children have learned how to make various designs of rubber band bracelets and necklaces using our rainbow band collection.

ジグソーパズル：アフタースクールの子どもたちにとても人気のある活動になっています。
Jigsaw puzzles: this has become a very popular activity for after school children.

アイロンビーズ：子どもたちは、さまざまな色のビーズを使って、人気のキャラクターやその他おもしろいものを作っています。 先生は子どもたちの作品作りを一緒に手伝っています。

Iron beads: children make popular characters and other interesting objects using various colored beads. Teachers help iron their projects together.

外遊び：SAPの新しい遊び場は、子どもたちが暖かい夏の夕暮れに遊ぶのに人気の場所です。子どもたちは、フラループ、大きなボール、縄跳びなどの新しい屋外のおもちゃを気に入っています。 たくさんの子どもたちは、地面のチョークアートで彼らの創造性を表現しています。

Outside play: our new play area is a popular place for kids to play on these warm summer evenings. They love the new outdoor toys such as hula loops, large balls and jump ropes. Many children also express their creativity through chalk art on the playground.

 

 

Art Club / Demon Slayer character origami: For our origami project, children have created 10 different charactors so far. Once we complete them all, we will make an album.　

アートクラブ/鬼滅の刃おりがみ: 子どもたちとの折り紙プロジェクトで、すでの10体のキャラクターを作りました。目標の数が完成したら、アルバムを作る予定です。

ヨガ：子どもたちはロレッタさんと一緒にヨガ活動を楽しみました。
Yoga: The children enjoyed doing yoga activities with Loretta. 

Following this past April's Holiday program activity on "How to grow a bean sprout," children were encouraged to take their sprouts home either to eat or to continue their growing process. It is a pleasure to see one family continue this process by taking home, planting in a pot, and taking great care of their seeds. They now have beautiful thriving plants for the future. This is such rewarding news for all the teachers involved in this experiment.

花火の秘密は何？　What is the secret behind fireworks?　

ウマ先生はいくつかの炎色試験の実演を行いました。 彼女は子どもたちに周期表を紹介しました。 子どもたちは各自、ラミネートされた周期表のコピーを渡されました。 花火の色を見せるために、次の要素が燃やされました。

ストロンチウムは明るいオレンジ色に輝き、銅は緑色の炎を出しました。 リチウムは真っ赤な炎を発し、ナトリウムは黄色い炎でした。 子どもたちは、カリウムの紫色を見て、バナナチップが燃やされると紫色を放つことを学びました。

Uma-sensei performed some flame-test demonstrations. She introduced the children to the periodic table. Each child was given a laminated copy of the periodic table. The following elements were burned to show the colors of fireworks.

Strontium glowed bight orange, while Copper gave a green flame. Lithium produced a bright red flame and Sodium had a yellow flame. Children saw purple with Potassium and learned that banana chips could also give off a purple color when burned.

 

 

 

夏でも海が冷たいのはなぜ？　Why does the ocean remain cool in the summer?　

水は比熱が高いです。水を温めるには多くのエネルギーが必要なので、朝は冷たく保たれます。 私たちは、陸が比べて暑い間は、冷たい水で泳ぐのが好きです。 クリス・ペトウコフ博士とウマ先生は、手を火にかけることで水の比熱が高いことを示しました。彼らは前後の手の温度を測定しました。 水の層が手を保護したので、子どもたちは温度にほとんど変化がないということを学びました。

Water has a high specific heat. It takes a lot of energy to heat up water, so it stays cool in the morning. We like to swim in the cool water while the land is hot in comparison. Dr Chris Petoukhoff and Uma-sensei demonstrated the high specific heat of water by setting their hands on fire. They measured the temperature of their hands before and after. The children saw that there was very little change because a layer of water protected their hands.

 

水の構造は何？　What is the stucture of water　

子どもたちは、発泡スチロールの球と棒を使って、水の分子の球棒モデルを作りました。 彼らは酸素と水素の分子と単結合について学びました。彼らは周期表と一緒にモデルを家に持ち帰りました。

Children made ball and stick models of a water molecule using strofoam balls and sticks. They learned about oxygen and hydrogen molecules and single bonds. They took the models home along with the periodic table.

SAP図書室　SAP Library　

ご存じでしたか？SAP図書室は、子どもたちが選択できる6か国語以上の何千冊もの本を提供しています。 すべての子どもたちは図書館カードを持っているので、欲しい本をかりて持ち帰ることができます。 子どもたちが本をかりたり、図書室で時間を過ごしながら、読書をしてくれることを願っています。 子どもたちが本にわくわくしているのを見るのは嬉しいです。

SAPは、あらゆる言語の新刊および古本の寄付を常に歓迎しているため、古い本を捨てないでください。本の状態が良ければ、捨てる代わりにSAPに持ってきてください！

Did you know? The SAP Library offers thousands of books in more than six languages for children to choose from. All children have library cards, so they can check out and take home the books they want. We hope children will check out books as well as read while they spend time here. It is good to see children so excited about books!

The SAP always welcomes donations of new and used library books in any language, so please do not throw away your old books. If they are in good condition, bring them to us instead!

 

 

COVID-19対策 COVID-19 Measures Continue

SAPはCOVID-19保護対策を引き続き実施しています。部屋は一日に何度も消毒され、子ども達の定期的な手洗いやマスクの適切な着用を促しています。SAPスタッフ全員は隔週でOISTのPCR検査を受けています。保護者の方は、SAPルーム内では常にマスクを着用してください。マスクを着用していない場合は、外での待機をお願いします。ご協力よろしくお願いします。

SAP COVID-19 protection measures remain in place. The room is disinfected multiple times a day, and children are reminded regularly to wash their hands and wear their masks properly. All SAP staff are receiving bi-weekly OIST PCR tests. We continue to ask parents and guardians to wear masks inside the SAP room at all times. Anyone without a mask must remain outside. We appreciate your cooperation.

屋内や屋外の遊び場で活動しているSAPの子ども達の写真は、5月の写真アルバムをご覧ください。今後の写真やビデオのための空き容量を確保するため、過去のアルバムは定期的に削除していますので、残しておきたいお子さんの写真は保存していただくようお願いします。

For more photos of SAP kids doing activities in the room and in the outdoor play areas, please check out the May photo album. Be sure to save photos of your child that you want to keep because we delete older albums regularly to free space for new photos and videos.
