Assistance Program for OIST Community Members

 Online Shopping assistance through the Resource Center (Preferred Method)

If people of the OIST community are quarantined and/or unable to go to the store due to:

  1. OIST members who have no transportation available to purchase food.
  2. OIST members (or family members) who are immune-compromised or have preexisting conditions that limits you/them from leaving the house.
  3. People who are quarantined (either due to travel or for health reasons and symptoms).

You can register to receive assistance with online shopping for food and basic necessities. The Resource Center can assist you with placing the online shopping order.

Details of the service provided by the Resource Center:

The Resource Center will assist individuals, who meet the criteria for support, with online ordering of groceries.

Aeon net-super

  • This online store requires individuals to register
  • The website is in Japanese only.
  • Delivery TBD on date of order and how busy the delivery people are.
  • Shipping is approximately 880 Yen per delivery for Onna. Shipping cost may vary depending on location.
  • Payment methods – credit card, cash on delivery, WAON card
  • Due to increase in people requesting delivery, we must order quickly. Every 11:00am, delivery slot for the day after the next day will become available. (for example, at 11:00 on 21st, delivery slots for 23rd will be available) So we have to make sure to put everything in the basket before 11:00 and place an order right after 11:00.

Steps the Resource Center will take:

  1. The RC will create user account for the user (zoom or phone)
  2. The user will send a shopping list to the RC (email and zoom or phone)
  3. The RC will “shop” online for the user, sending through a screenshot of the “shopping basket” before placing order (email)
  4. The user will confirm the order (email)
  5. The RC will place order on behalf of user -payment method will be determined through discussion with the user.

Coop Okinawa

Information on Coop

  • This online store requires individuals to register
  • The website is in Japanese only
  • 1,000 yen to become a member
  • Delivery for one-person 209yen/one-time week delivery
  • Delivery for two people 105yen/for a person one-time week delivery
  • Delivery for over 3 people FREE/ one-time week delivery
  • RC place order on behalf of user. This will be determined when you talk with the Resource Center.

Steps the Resource Center will take:

  1. RC will create user account for the user (zoom or phone).
  2. The user will send a shopping list to the RC (email and zoom or phone).
  3. The RC will “shop” online for the user, sending through a screenshot of the “shopping basket” before placing order (email).
  4. The user will confirm the order (email)
  5. The RC place order on behalf of user - payment method will be cash on delivery.

Flying Pig

This service is in English and non-Japanese users can use on their own.

  • Delivery takes approximately one week.

Ask for a volunteer to assist you (Secondary Method if the online shopping stores stop delivery or you need help with picking up over the counter medication)

If people of the OIST community are quarantined and/or unable to go to the store due to the following AND the online shopping stores stop delivery or you need help to pick up over the counter medications, then you can register to receive assistance from a volunteer.

  1. OIST members who have no transportation available to make own purchases.
  2. OIST members (or family members) who are immune-compromised or have preexisting conditions that limits you/them from leaving the house.
  3. People who are quarantined (either due to travel or for health reasons and symptoms).

Please note: if you register for this assistance, you understand that the Resource center will match you up with a volunteer, but you must communicate your reasonable needs with the volunteer so they can provide you with the reasonable service such as grocery shopping and picking up over the counter medications. You will also need to exchange personal information as well as money without having face-to face contact.

CAMPUS HOUSING ONLY - Delivery and pick up PCR Test

If you live on campus and are quarantined to campus housing, you can request a PCR test to be delivered to your cmapus housing. The deliverey will be between 9:30am-10:30am. A volunteer will pick up the testing kit, deliver it to your door step. You will provide a sample and safelty give back to the volunteer for delivery.

  • ON CAMPUS PCR test delivery (this is for on campus residents only). OIST clinic will provide instruction on the procedure on delivering and subsequently picking up.

 

3. To Become a Volunteer

Register Here if you would like to volunteer your services to an OIST member.

Services include:

  • On and off campus food and medicine delivery.
  • ON CAMPUS PCR test delivery and pick up. (On campus residents only).

In order to be a volunteer, you must:

  1. Have your own personal protective equipment.
  2. Have permission from your manger if you are volunteering during working hours.
  3. Understand there is no official safety training provided.
  4. Have a valid driver's license, working vehicle, and full insurance coverage.
  5. By registering as a volunteer, you understand you will not hold OIST or OIST members accountable for any damage. You are doing this for the OIST community members that need your assistance.
