Invitation to the research presentation by final year students at Hentona High School (January 2020)

We were invited to the research presentation by the final year Environmental Studies students at Hentona High School. Under the guidance of Mr. Takara, who has been a collaborator to the OKEON Churamori Project since its establishment, the students have been conducting research on ants. The students made great progress this year, such as winning the Honorable Mention Awards at the poster presentation of the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Soil and Animal Science and at the 59th Okinawa Student Science Award Exhibition, guiding ant survey at the Yambaru Wildlife Conservation Center (Ufugi Nature Museum), as well as winning the 42nd Okinawa Youth Science Exhibition.
Additionally, one of the students, an aspiring environmental education teacher, presented their research experience and successfully passed the AO entrance examination to Tsuru University. Our collaborative project with Okinawan high schools aims to have the teachers and students lead their own research projects. It was encouraging for us to see that the high school teachers’ leadership and the students' hard work have contributed to both their progress and our research efforts.
