Description

The Third Regional Conference for Presidents and Vice-Presidents of Universities and Research Institutions on Creating an Enabling Intellectual Property Environment for Technology Development, Management and Commercialization is co-hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which is one of the 15 specialized agencies of the United Nations (UN) and OIST, with the assistance of the Japan Patent Office.

 

EIE Presidents’ Summit

The Presidents’ Summit is a part of the WIPO's Enabling Intellectual Property Environment (EIE) Project and is a series of meetings to share views and discuss topics relating to technology transfer with senior decision makers including Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, Presidents of Universities and key government ministries on the importance of IP management, technology transfer office management and technology commercialization. Two summits were held in 2017, in Daejeon, South Korea, and in Osaka, Japan. This year, WIPO and OIST co-host the Presidents's Summit in Okinawa, Japan. 

 

The Enabling Intellectual Property Environment (EIE) Project

Improving a country’s economic development and strengthening its innovation ecosystem are goals expressed by many countries, both developed and developing.  Increasing the utilization of intellectual property (IP) and harnessing it to stimulate and sustain economic growth are ways to achieve these goals.  

 

The objective of the EIE Project is to assist countries make better use of IP at the university and research institute level in order to help a country to maximize its own innovative capacity.  By improving ways to capture valuable outcomes from research, the EIE project aims to improve economic development and social welfare.
