September 2024 enrollment is only possible if you are already here at the OIST campus, and if we can find a rotation lab for you from September. There is a possibility that you will be asked to defer to January 2025 if any of the arrangements for September does not work out. Operating System

OIST provides you with a personal computer with basic software for general productivity. There is a choice between a MacBook Pro Air (M2) or a Dell XPS 13 (9315) series. Research specific software may be added later, as needed, using OIST site licenses. The computer remains the property of OIST, and may not be modified, engineered, opened, or mistreated, to avoid damage and maintain the warranty.

Note: OIST will provide other software as needed, either from our licensed software server or by supplying you with the necessary license key. Alternative operating systems (e.g. Ubuntu Linux) are your own responsibility. Storage on these laptops is more than adequate as we encourage the use of the OIST networked student storage, and research unit storage, which has massive capacity and reliability. Users of the OIST network may only connect to the network using sanctioned devices. Other details of the computer support will be made available later, but the intent is to remove technological impediments to learning and research for our students. Also, the warranty by OIST for each laptop is 3 years. But each warranty doesn’t cover for accidental damages (Liquid spilled on or in unit; Drops & falls and other collisions; Electrical surge; Damaged or broken LCD due to a drop or fall & more).
