The following sections on prior courses and research experience are included for the purpose of summarizing the background information to the Graduate School and the Mentor.
Your Term 1 lab rotation has already been assigned, and cannot be changed now.
Please list 3 or 4 faculty with whom you would consider doing a lab rotation for Terms 2 and 3. Please indicate if any of these are potential thesis research labs for you. If your first term rotation is not out-of-field, you must nominate at least one out-of-field unit (and indicate this as 'out of field'). Out-of-field means a research area that is not your intended or likely thesis research topic. For example, if you are a physics student, suitable out of field areas would be mathematics or engineering units. If you are a cell biologist, suitable out of field units might include neuroscientists or ecologists. The aim of mandatory out of field research experience is to develop a broader appreciation for research techniques and approaches. We are not going to force you to do something you have no interest in, and where you cannot contribute or learn from, but to develop complementary skills that will benefit your future career.

For Term 1 AY2020, only those elective courses available online are available as options for you to select from.
A maximum of two elective courses per term is recommended considering the balance between course work and lab work. You may choose one or none to tailor your program as needed.
Credit requirements for electives: 20 credits of electives for Bachelor degree holders, a minimum of 10 for higher degree holders (Master's degree or above). Mentors may recommend to GS that you receive a waiver of 1-10 credits, depending on your level of preparation for the desired research plan. Please list sufficient courses to cover your full credit requirements (20 electives credits for BScentry, maybe less for MSc entry).
