The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) Committee promotes and engenders the ongoing cultivation of an inclusive, equitable environment where everyone can reach their full potential regardless of their backgrounds and intersectional identities, including but not limited to gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability or attributes, medical condition, race, ethnicity, ancestry, culture, national origin, religion, political beliefs, family situation, marital status, or socioeconomic background. The GEDI Committee was created in August 2019 to replace the Gender Equality Committee. The committee is guided through its inclusive stance in inviting representation across the OIST community to be attentive to their experiences, aspirations, and needs.

Members:

  • Executive Director for Professional Development and Inclusive Excellence (Interim Chair)
  • Graduate Students (2-3 elected by the student assembly)
  • Researchers/Technicians (at least 2)
  • Faculty (2)
  • Vice President for Human Resources
  • Director of Gender Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (to be hired)
  • Representative from the Faculty Affairs Office in addition to the Interim Chair
  • Representative from the Graduate School
  • Staff from the Child Development Center
  • Representative from Ganjuu Service
  • Representative from Communications and Public Relations
  • Administrative staff (at least 2)
