Abstract
Writing is a critical component of the scientific process but is also one of the most difficult. This one-day workshop aims to provide participants with tips on how to write science for publications and fellowships. The topics discussed here are relevant to all fields of science and not just biology.

The workshop is divided into two parts:

  1. Writing specific sections. Rather than focusing on abstract notions of how scientific writing should be, I’ll provide rubrics on how to write specific sections of a manuscript or fellowship applications.
  2. On-site writing session and feedback. This will be a dedicated writing session where all participants, including me, will sit and write together. Participants can use the rubrics learned in the first session to improve their own writing. This session is also an excellent opportunity to discuss each individual’s approach to writing and learn from one another.

Thu, 25th May 2023 Aluminati Launching
Time: 10:00 - 11:00
Venue: Seminar Room B250
Audience: all students and alumni

Aluminati is a new alumni network platform that allows graduates and people at OIST to stay engaged and continue to develop relationships. Once you create an account, you will be able to search and see where the other OISTers are around the world. The target audience of this system are: 1) OIST alumni, 2) OIST PhD students, and 3) OIST postdocs and faculty. With this, we hope that alumni, students, postdocs, and faculty will be able to stay in touch wherever they may end up after leaving OIST, facilitate organizing meet-ups or reunion events in the future, as well as creating or searching for jobs specifically for OISTers. In this session, we will introduce and explain the system to be part of this group.

Feedback Meeting on Diversity at OIST with Dr. Kathy Takayama,
