Water is the lifeforce of every person, essential to our physical, environmental, spiritual, and cultural livelihoods. The worsening climate crisis has already increased the frequency of droughts and floods throughout Asia and the Pacific Islands, threatening access to water and food, which can, in turn, lead to forced migration, conflict, and unrest. Water scarcity and insecurity demonstrate why climate change can and must be framed as an all-encompassing humanitarian crisis.
This interactive presentation, co-led by Dr. Maya Soetoro and Juno Fitzpatrick, will explore the relationship between water, oceans, and positive peacebuilding, using case studies and examples from the Asia-Pacific region. Participants will be challenged to shift their current mindsets regarding water and climate issues and will learn about key actions.
