Contemporary Japanese Culture Club

Hello and welcome to the OIST Contemporary Japanese Culture Club webpage.

Japan is known worldwide to be a formidable place when it comes to popular culture, let it be for its uniqueness or for its extreme strangeness. Over the years, a lot of typical Japanese forms of culture have been spreading all over the world and have generated a great interest. We know for sure that a large number of people in OIST definitely enjoy at least some aspects of that culture and this is where the Contemporary Japanese Culture Club fall into place.

What is it that we want to do? Our main purpose is to bring people together, because we believe that sharing your passion with someonewho understands what you are talking about makes it even more interesting. Besides that, we might do more subtantial activities, from screening anime in the auditorium to scanslating manga, or even designing a cute mascot for OIST, depending on the interest of the club members.

What are we interested in? Anything that will (even loosely) fit into the name of our club. For example, our member might enjoy

  • Manga
  • Anime
  • J-pop
  • Japanese drama, TV series or movies
  • Japanese literature
  • Video games
  • Karaoke
  • Pachinko
  • Crazy emoticons φ(°ρ°*)メ
  • Anything kawaii

or virtualy anything you get excited about in this wonderful country, because we know that if you are looking for people to show off your bonzai to, you will definitely find them in our club.

If you feel like joining us, please let us know by filling the membership form, and we will let you know of all the activities of the club. If you have any questions, email Hiroaki or Jérémie, you will find their address in the contact page on the left.

Looking forward to meeting you all,

The Contemporary Japanese Culture Club
