Q1.　Why do we need to separate waste?　

Reasons for separation
　・To maintain the good working order of the current disposal site for as long as possible.
　・To dispose of waste hygienically.

　　

Q2.　Our cleaning staff are separating the waste. Why we need to do it?

Waste is being separated by the cleaning staff, but it takes a lot of time and money for the cleaning staff alone to do this job for the entire of OIST. It is necessary for each person to separate their own garbage in order to reduce the work load and to dispose of garbage hygienically.

Q3.　Why don't you have a more sophisticated system for waste separation?

OIST's waste collection is done by a collection company in Onna Village, so garbage separation follows the rules of Onna Village.

Q4.　Can I put reusable files in the area for recyclable paper?　

Only paper for recycling can be placed on these shelves.
*Other paper products and paper files are burnables.
*Remove the staples and dispose of them in the 'glassware/metals' waste box.

Q5.　Can I dispose of my personally purchased home appliances and furniture from my office in the OIST trash?

Do not dispose of personally purchased items in the OIST Waste Collection Areas or Waste storage. Please take it home and dispose of it yourself.

Q6. How do you handle the waste generated by the vendor?

As a general rule, waste generated by vendors  (trash and leftover materials generated during the work) should be requested to be disposed of by the vendor.

For packing materials, first request the vendor who delivered the materials to pick them up.
If you need to dispose of the packing materials at OIST's expense, please follow the procedure below to dispose of them as burnable waste.

・ Make large Styrofoam and cushioning materials small and put them in a bag. All small packing materials must be in bag.
・ If you want to dispose of a large amount, please contact Service Portal before disposal.

*Packing materials are Burnable waste.

Q7.　Where should I dispose of large amounts or bulky waste?

●Home appliances, machines, and furniture
 1. Confirmation of the cost of the purchased item. (The Facilities Management Section do not check them.)
 2. Confirmation of OIST fixed assets :https://groups.oist.jp/dfa/fixed-assets (The Facilities Management Section do not check them.)
 3. Confirmation of the owner or unit section which purchased the item. (Items purchased by individuals cannot be disposed of at OIST).

Q9.　How do I dispose of it after changing diapers?

Please dispose of diapers in the trash can in the restroom with the diaper changing station.

Q10.　Where can I dispose of my computer or computer-related equipment?

・Please ask OHS for any equipment used in the lab area.
