Our main experimental technique to uncover the atomic scale properties of novel phases of matter is scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy. Using MHz circuitry and microwave techniques, we study the dynamics of the interactions between the electrons with other electrons and the crystallographic lattice, in addition to the more conventional time-averaged properties.
