Help needed from All Children and Families!
We are looking for families with children between the ages of 6 to 12 years (primarily English-speaking) who do not demonstrate symptoms of ADHD (high level of inattention, hyperactivity or impulsivity) or other learning or behavior concerns. Please consider helping us advance our knowledge of ADHD by participating in one of our research studies with your child.
Current studies:
- “Role of Reinforcement in ADHD” examines how children with and without ADHD respond to reinforcement (e.g., praise). We hope the results of this study lead to a better understanding of behavior management strategies and ways to assist children’s learning.
Taking part in this study would involve your child completing one or more computer tasks, during which children receive feedback or win ‘points’ for certain responses.
- “Language and Social Problem Solving in ADHD” explores how children with and without ADHD understand and solve social problems, and how their language skills may be related to their ability to do so.
Taking part in this study would involve your child completing a screening measure of basic language skills, and watching video clips of children presented with social situations, after which they will be asked to answer questions about what they saw.
Taking part in either or both studies would also involve:
- Your child completing an abbreviated assessment of his or her cognitive (thinking) and working-memory skills
- Parent(s) completing questionnaires about the child’s behavior
Depending on the number of studies you and your child decide to participate in, your child would work with our team for 1 ½ to 2 hours, at the OIST Children’s Research Center in Onna (an alternate location may be available later) over 1 to 2 sessions.
We will work with you to find a convenient time for you and your child to visit our Center.
