Profile

Luis Echegoyen received a BS in Chemistry (1971) and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry (1974) from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, and was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1975). After 3 years in an industrial position with Union Carbide Corporation he moved to the University of Puerto Rico in 1977 to begin his academic career, then to the University of Miami in 1982, and to Clemson University in 2002, where he served as chair until 2006. He was the Division Director for Chemistry at the US National Science Foundation (2006-2010) before moving to his present position at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he holds the Robert A. Welch Endowed Professorship in chemistry. Echegoyen has published more than 400 articles and around 50 monographs and book chapters and has an h index of 75 (Google Scholars) and has received numerous awards.
